Well that's old stuff now, some commercial products do far better.

But it should be still functional and somehow useful ;)
Let me know if you have any suggestions for few improvements which could be done.

Preview of Environment V2.0

Post by Lakys » Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:08 pm

I am currently working (when I find a little time) on new environments.

The new environment object will be based on the same geometry. I am unsure I keep exactly the same UVMapping. You will be able to apply the map of the V1.
It will features some poses/morphes allowing to make a round hemisphere instead of the classical sphere.

A few themes will be released at first:
- sea sunset 01: really late sun, orange colors, only sky and water. Can be used for you boat scenes or with a later island prop.
- sea sunset 02: variation of the first one, with a earlier sun, lighter, more yellowish than orange.
- bad weather: a ground/earth theme provided with a terrain plus 4096x4096 color and bump/displacement textures for it.

It still requires some work to arrive to something I can release. Let me know if you are interested to beta (or even alpha-test).

A few thumbnails: I shall post something larger later as I don't have all the textures ready yet (still computing some). Target resolutions for backgrounds are 4800x2400 (possibly more if it doesn't crash before).

Update about the 2.0 version development

Post by Lakys » Thu Jul 12, 2007 12:19 pm

Status should be good:
- mesh: ok
- UV mapping: done
- maps: ready for sunset 01 and sunset 02 (including high resolution front detail, it means that the environment uses several maps to go further than just a single 4096 pixels wide map. It consists of five maps actually). Maps were computed with Vue 6 Infinite on three computers for a week.

Well I have been stuck on a silly thing about rigging. The size of environment makes it doesn't fit in Poser 6.

I think I have a last idea, like using the Env1.1 CR2 with a resized version of the Env2 object, save it and rescale?
But I hate having the scale different from 100% for the standard use in D|S.

Hmm, the underlying issue is that I have not much time to work on it. But I think you would have appreciated an update.

The shame is that the product is mostly ready, I just had some stupid rigging problem with Poser (too large) and could not fix it in D|S yet.

hi, I've just tried the Environment 1.2 in Studio 1.8.2.something.

D|S choked on the light preset. It seems not to like DzLight in a script any more.

I did a quick search and replace and replaced all the instances of DzLight with DzDistantLight . It seems to work. Is this adequete, or are there other tweaks that should be done?

Would DzPointlight be better for some of the lights? I am afraid my knowledge of DAZ|Script is only up to searching and replacing stuff in other people's scripts.

I realise this is an old product, but I think it could still be useful, at least until you release version 2. And I like environments :)

Hi Lakys,
I really liked your Beach Environment 1.2.1 expecially because i could easily change the image with other i have (light probes).
Now i have a problem, i installed DAZ STUDIO 2.0 and now after a month i tryed to use your environment but DS crashes to the desktop..i didn't changed nothing in my hardware/software configuration so i think is the new studio version the problem. Can you confirm that? do you know a workaround?
the DS log tells me about a memory access violation but nothing useful (at least for me).

Thank you in advance and keep up the good work (as usual) :D

It seems there is some compatibility issue with .daz object made with version of DAZ|Studio prior to 1.4.

I still plan to make an update. Still waiting from DAZ to get some decent tool to create D|S content.

Sorry to have not been able to fix this.

By the way, have you tried to use just a primitive sphere for your maps?

I have tryed to use a primitive sphere and apply the "map" to it but, in my opinion, the result is not enough. I tryed just for some minutes BTW
Do you have some tips?

P.S.
sorry for my eventual bad english

yes to make it an environment, you need to adjust the surface settings:
- apply the map in diffuse color
- ambient color to white, strength 100%
- diffuse strength 0%
- lighting model: matte

And another thing is to switch off Cast Shadows in the sphere parameters.

Please, let me know how it works.

ps: you don't need to be sorry about your English. Mine is far from being that good.
