MAT preset for Emma

Post by Lakys » Fri Feb 16, 2007 7:12 pm

Well, it is far from being good for anything, but you can check my settings and improve things. So use it at your own risk ;)

- Eye settings used for the last render (single refraction).
- That thing has an insane amount of ambience (70%).
- colour corrections based on USMP 0.9beta
- innermouth/teeth/tongue and nails do not have any correct settings yet

Thank you, the eye settings are great. I just had to adjust the sclera and lacrimal to fit my lighting better. :D
Still a lot to do on this image, but the eyes are far better than before!

Nice render you made here Weimart, the eyes fit really well with the lighting and the rest of the character :)

It seems we still have some little issues to make V4 eyes beautiful.

Maybe it is time to really consider to make a tool to automate a few things.

V4 can produce great eyes. We saw on page 2, the results we could get with Emma.

Here is a quick attempt with Sam, nothing complex like before, just a few adjustments on the eye morphs, a single refraction on the cornea.
Not bad, but not that good either.

Nice, here is the best I could do:
Refraction on the cornea only (bulge 10%) + Transmap.
Eye surface totally transparent.
1Light +some ambient light with AO.
Still this iris/sclera transition

I tried to place the transmap for transition on the sclera instead.
The result is not perfect, but it looks a little better.

Optimizing further the transmap for both the cornea and the sclera, it is possible to really get a smoother transition.
The darker border is not really visible anymore, which is not realistic.
Funny thing is it took more than a couple of hours to figure out why we got weird cornea edges.

No raytracing is used for this render.

So now, I needed to reintroduce dark transitions while keeping them smoother than before.

Playing with surface settings, I could get the effect I was after.

I guess we have almost all the elements to build a V4 eye fix script. :D

Good job.
I've been playing with transmaps too. What I've done is create a new transmap for cornea to fake the darker iris edge, but I rekon yours is far better.

I shall publish mine.

It is weird as a circle painted at the correct location doesn't go very well. The UV mapping is a actually a little more curved than a circle.

I did something like 5 or 6 attempts before getting correct results.

Your render is nice too :)

Yes please, I'd like to use it. :)

 That explains why mine is always off one side or the other :D
I was planning to use some kind of gradient to find the correct location, but if you publish yours I won't bother doing it.

Thank you, Still a few things I'm not quite happy with (eyes/head position, her left mouth corner, hair bump map...). But, yes, another nice portrait coming along...

You should be able to get it now.
If others are interested to get as well, please just let me know. For now, it is far from being easy to use without knowing how to apply it.
I only have a short material preset for Sam.

But I hope to come with something following the path of V3 Eyes Presets or USMP, with an intelligent script.
But, yes, another nice portrait coming along...
I am looking forward to see it. :)

Wow, some great eyes here.
I'd like a script :)

I haven't bother tweaking the eyes much,
from experience I know I won't get very far anyway,
so its best to leave it to the experts :D

Well, I guess that we can do even better than that, right now. :)
I'd like a script :)
Certainly, we are working on it. :o

Since V3, I had not worked much neither on eyes. I am no expert, I can say V4 eyes gave us headaches.
Well it is time to bring her out of the wilderness.
